Spielerando

A scripted slow walk through a corridor speeds up and slows down at every corner

Telling the camera to move along several points looks right on paper, but a long stretch is crossed at a gallop and a short one at a crawl, and the view snaps round each corner. Here is how to give the walk an even pace and a smooth turn.

Why this works

A walk feels steady only when the same stretch takes the same time, whatever the corner points are. So travel is measured in distance along the path, not in equal time per piece, and the gaze looks a little way ahead so corners turn gently.

When not to use it

It is too rigid when the player should be able to stop, look around or choose a way, since a path fixes everything. Free movement with gentle guidance from walls and lights keeps the feel of a decision. It also does not suit scenes that need a deliberate pause.
