Peeking around a corner pushes the view through the wall

Peeking out from cover is great for tension, but a peek that does not know about walls shows the other side of them, or lets the eye pass through a door frame. Here is how to limit it by the room available, and why it must shrink faster than it grows.

Why this works

The wall has the final say. The peek you want is capped by the room you really have, and when that room shrinks, the view is cut back at once; only the return to the middle is eased. Smoothing a hard limit lets the eye slide through the wall.

When not to use it

It adds little in games with no cover or tight aiming, and can annoy where the player fights the controls already. A simple crouch or a door that opens a crack may do the same job with less to learn.
