Spielerando

Turn the player's view towards the monster without a spin or a snap

Sometimes the story must make the player look at something, and the turn must feel like fright, not like a glitch. Here is how to turn the short way round, how fast to go, and when to hand control back.

Why this works

Fear comes from being turned, not from being teleported. Taking the shorter way round at a speed the eye can follow, then holding still, lets the player see the thing and feel that the game did it to them.

When not to use it

Use it sparingly or not at all in games that promise full control, in virtual reality, and for players who feel sick when the view is moved for them. Taking the view away there breaks trust. Point at the threat with a sound or a light instead.
