A slow creeping camera move for dread that can turn around halfway

A slow push towards a door or a face builds fear, but the moment the scene changes its mind and pulls back, many cameras lurch. Here is how to keep the move smooth in both directions, and where the speed should be gentlest.

Why this works

Dread needs a movement the eye can trust. If the camera remembers only how far along it is, and gentle easing is applied on top, then turning back simply walks the same road in reverse, at the same pace, with no jolt.

When not to use it

Wrong when the scene needs a sudden shock rather than a slow build, or when the camera must follow a moving subject, since a fixed path cannot keep up. For a chase or a surprise, cut or move fast and let the speed itself carry the fear.
