Aim an arrow or bolt ahead of a running enemy so it actually hits

Shooting at where an enemy is means missing where it will be. Working out where to aim is a small puzzle with a few traps: enemies running away faster than the arrow, the same speed, or straight at you. Here is how to get a point to aim at, or to know there is none.

Why this works

A shot takes time to arrive, and the target keeps moving meanwhile. The right aim is the one spot where both reach the same place at the same moment, so asking when that can happen answers where to aim, and also whether it can happen at all.

When not to use it

Skip it when the target changes direction often or wanders at random, or when the shot is so fast that it seems instant. Then aim at the current spot, or fire often, because a prediction built on a path that will not hold only misses in a new way.
