Roll a mine cart along a track that speeds up downhill and stalls uphill

A cart at a fixed speed feels like a ride at a fair. A cart that follows the hills feels like part of the mine: fast on the way down, slowing up the next rise, sometimes running back. Here is how to do that on any shape of track, including the moment it finally rests.

Why this works

What drives a rolling thing is only how steep the track is right now, measured along the rail, not across the map. Pull from the slope, a little drag that can stop but never push backwards, and the hills do the rest.

When not to use it

Skip it when the ride must be a set show with the same timing every time, like a story cart ride or a rhythm section. Then move the cart along the track on a fixed timetable, so the player cannot get stuck or arrive late.
