Give a travelling trader a new selection each week that stays the same all week
A trader who offers something different every time you walk past feels random and cheats players of planning. One with the same goods forever feels dead. The week is the natural unit, but the staples must always be there, and nothing may repeat within one selection.
Why this works
A shop is believable when it stays put long enough to plan around, and fresh enough to bring people back. Deriving the week's goods from fixed inputs gives the same shelf to everyone, and a draw without repeats means no wasted slots.
When not to use it
Skip it when the trader should react to what the player did, such as selling what was just asked for in a quest, or when the shop is part of the story. Then stock the shelf by hand or by the player's progress.
