Spielerando

Is the timer on group story votes too short, too long, or fine?

A countdown on a team decision either rushes people into a random pick or lets the group wait for nothing. The average time to decide cannot tell you which, because the rushed picks are exactly the ones that were cut off. This entry shows what to look at instead.

Why this works

A countdown hides what it cuts off: the people who ran out of time never show you how long they needed. So look at how often the clock decided, and whether even the slowest finished with room to spare.

When not to use it

Do not tune the timer from numbers when you have only a few decisions, or when the pressure is part of the fun, such as a tense escape. Then a short clock is a design choice; judge it by how players feel.
