A big wagon or beast gets stuck in a doorway that a person walks through

Routes planned for a small character send a wide animal or cart into gaps it cannot fit through, and it jams. Here is how to plan for the body size, and why the answer for a big unit may be a very different, longer road.

Why this works

A route made for a point says nothing about a body that fills a whole square. Treat each stop as the corner of that square and call it valid only if every cell under it is free, and the ordinary search can no longer squeeze a big unit through a small gap.

When not to use it

Don't plan per size when all units are about the same, or when big ones can squash through, crouch or fold up. One shared route is simpler. Also remember that a big unit may have no route at all, so give it a plan for that.
