Find the health ranges where my rules overlap or leave nothing to happen

When a rule table reacts to ranges, like low, medium and high health, two rules can claim the same value, or a value can fall between them. This entry shows a quick way to find every such number, including the one on the edge.

Why this works

At the edges of a range, a single number belongs to either side, and hand-written rules disagree about which. Sorting the ranges and walking along them once finds every value that is claimed twice or by nobody, edges included.

When not to use it

Skip it when the rules look at several things at once, such as health and distance together, since ranges then interlock and a simple walk along one line is not enough. Test a grid of sample values, or reduce the rules to one measure.
