Slide for a set time, slow down along the way and stay low under a low ceiling
A slide that ends on a timer pops the hero upright into a low tunnel ceiling, and one that slows at the wrong rate covers a different distance each time. Here is a slide whose length is known in advance and whose ending waits for room to stand.
Why this works
A move is only believable if the body respects the world. Standing up is a request, not a command: the hero may rise only where there is room. Working out distance from the average speed makes the slide cover the same ground on any screen.
When not to use it
Do not use it when the player should keep full control during the move, such as in a fast shooter, or when levels have no low gaps. Use a short dash or a duck button that is held instead.
