Let players hold a grenade to shorten the fuse and throw it back
A grenade fuse that restarts when thrown cannot be cooked, one that does not stop when held cannot be thrown back, and a slow frame can let it blow up a little late and in the wrong place. Here is the timing that lets all three work.
Why this works
A fuse is a shared fact about the world, and it belongs to nobody. If it only ever runs down, whoever holds the grenade takes the same risk, and tricks such as waiting or throwing it back arise from one rule, with no special case.
When not to use it
Do not use it for young players or very fast games where holding a live bomb is only frustrating, and not where blasts must go off on a fixed beat. Use a grenade that explodes on impact, or after a fixed delay.
