Jumping out of a slide without chaining slides into endless speed
A slide that ends in a leap feels great, so players will do it again and again. Without care, each round gets faster until the level is crossed in seconds, or the leap fails when the slide ran under a low ceiling. Here is the slide that gives a boost once and a leap that respects the ceiling.
Why this works
Speed that is earned should be carried, but a gift that can be repeated forever breaks the level. A boost that only comes once, fades quickly and has to cool down lets the player enjoy the jump out of a slide without turning it into endless acceleration.
When not to use it
Skip it in slow, careful games such as stealth or horror, where a burst of speed breaks the mood. Also wrong where levels are tight and a fast slide would carry the player into walls. Use a plain crouch there instead.
