A long list that is slow to scroll with a held key, or races past the item you wanted
Inventories and spell lists can have hundreds of rows. Moving once per press is tedious, a fixed fast repeat overshoots, and wrapping around while holding sends you back to the start. Here is a held-key rhythm with a pause first, a speed-up later and a different rule at the ends.
Why this works
A tap and a hold are two different wishes: one step, or a long way. Waiting before repeating tells them apart, speeding up covers a long list, and stopping at the ends keeps you from overshooting without noticing.
When not to use it
Skip the repeat in very short menus of a few items, or where a wrong move costs something, like a shop with prices. There, one press should be one step, so nobody buys the wrong thing by holding.
