On an ice floor the hero must keep sliding until something stops it

Slippery floors make a good puzzle, but only if the rules are exact: where the slide begins, where it ends, whether it can go on forever, and what happens on the last tile. Here is a small rule set that makes every slide predictable and returns the whole route for the animation.

Why this works

The surface decides what happens after the push, not the player. Working out the whole slide at once from a few simple rules makes it predictable, so the player can plan the puzzle ahead and the result never depends on timing.

When not to use it

Skip it when the player should steer on the ice, like a racing or skating game with drifting. Use speed that slowly builds and fades there, and allow turning in the middle.
