Dropped coins that fly to the hero without orbiting, tunnelling or arriving at once
A pull toward the player makes collecting loot pleasant, but a bad one makes coins circle the hero, shoot past, or leap into the pocket the moment they drop so the reward is never seen. Here is a short delay, an acceleration that builds up and a step that can never overshoot.
Why this works
Pickup should feel like the world answering the player, not a trick. Letting an item speed up smoothly, and never faster than it can reach, makes it read as being drawn in, and a short wait lets the player see what dropped first.
When not to use it
Skip it when picking things up is a decision, such as a limited bag, rare items or a choice between two drops. A pull that grabs everything takes that decision away; make the player walk to the item and press a button.
