Skipping a cutscene leaves characters in the wrong place or the story flags unset
Scripted walks bring the party into a room and start the next scene. A player who skips them should land exactly where they would have ended up, with every door opened and every flag set. Frame-by-frame movement makes that impossible. Here is how to describe the script so that any moment, including the end, can be computed directly.
Why this works
If the scene is a pure description of who is where at each moment, then playing and skipping are the same thing asked at different times. Nothing needs replaying, so skipping can never end in a different place than watching would.
When not to use it
Skip it when the scene depends on the player, such as choices, a chase or a fight that goes on during the talk. Those can't be worked out ahead of time; cut such parts into separate scenes and only make the fixed parts skippable.
