Swinging on a rope and letting go at just the right moment

A swing looks easy until it slowly speeds up by itself, or until letting go sends the hero in a direction that has nothing to do with the swing. Here is the swing that keeps its energy honest, and the speed you carry off at the release.

Why this works

A swing is a hanging weight that trades height for speed and back. Keeping that trade honest at every step means the rope never creates energy, and the point where the player lets go decides the direction and strength of the launch.

When not to use it

Wrong when the rope is only decoration or a fixed ride. Also wrong for ropes that should feel loose and floppy; a simple swing is stiff. Then use a chain of joints, or play a fixed animation and skip the physics.
