A grappling hook that pulls you in and flings you when released
Hooking onto a ceiling and reeling in is a joy when the pull feels like a real rope. If the pull teleports the hero, or the speed vanishes at the moment of letting go, the move feels fake. Here is a rope that holds its length, tightens smoothly and passes on the swing.
Why this works
A rope only limits how far you can be, it does not pull you. Moving the body back to the rope's reach and cancelling only the part of the motion that points away leaves the sideways motion alone, and that leftover motion is what makes a swing.
When not to use it
Wrong when the hook should snap you to a spot, like a pull-up tool in a puzzle game. A swinging body there is hard to control. Use a fixed pull toward the anchor, and stop all motion on arrival.
