Spielerando

Let cheap orders pass an unaffordable one, but not forever

A big castle at the front of the build queue blocks every hut behind it while the player saves up, yet if small orders always jump ahead, the castle never starts. This entry lets others pass a few times, then makes the queue wait so the savings can finally add up.

Why this works

Strict order wastes the player's time, and free skipping starves anything expensive. Allowing a few passes gives the queue a patient middle way: cheap work keeps flowing, but the big order is promised its turn, because every pass is counted and the count has a ceiling.

When not to use it

Skip it when the order of building is part of a plan the player made, such as a build order in a strategy game. Surprise jumps break that plan. Use a strict queue there, and show the shortage clearly.
