Reward a well-timed block without letting players just mash the button
A perfect block that is open every time you press feels great until players discover that pressing block ten times a second beats every boss. This entry shows how to give the reward only to a deliberate press while an ordinary block still works.
Why this works
A perfect block only means something if it shows the player read the attack. Counting the window from a fresh press and refusing it to rapid repeats keeps the reward for those who wait and watch, while a plain block stays for everyone.
When not to use it
Do not add a parry to slow games where attacks are hard to read, or for players who need generous timing. A tight window there only frustrates. Use a plain block with a cost, or widen the window a lot.
