Scroll layered backgrounds at different speeds without pixel shimmer or seams

Distant hills that move slower than nearby trees give depth, but in pixel art the layers shimmer, blur or wobble against each other, and tiling layers show a gap when the camera goes left. Here is how to place every layer so it stays crisp and repeats without a seam.

Why this works

Pixel art only looks sharp when every pixel lands on a whole screen position. Working out each layer from the true camera and rounding once, last, keeps slow layers from drawing half pixels, and wrapping the result properly keeps the repeat seamless in both directions.

When not to use it

Skip it for smooth, painted or high-resolution backgrounds, where moving by fractions looks better than snapping, and for games with no sideways scrolling. Move those layers by exact amounts instead, or leave the background still.
