Spielerando

A protective circle of candles: when will it fail as they burn out one by one?

The circle holds as long as enough candles are lit, but they all have different stubs. Here is how to tell the player how long they have, which candle's end really matters, and what relighting one does to the answer.

Why this works

A group protects as long as enough of its members hold, so what matters is not the earliest to fail but the one whose loss leaves too few. Telling the player that moment lets them see which candle is worth saving, and so makes a real choice.

When not to use it

Not needed when the circle needs every candle, in which case the earliest to burn out is the one that counts. Also skip it when the time should stay a secret to keep dread high; then show only that the candles are fading.
