Combine many small drops on the ground into a few piles

Chop a tree, empty a quiver or lose a full bag and the world fills with dozens of single items, each one a little object the game has to carry around. Merging them into piles is the fix, but done naively it loses items, mixes things that differ, or builds piles that are too large.

Why this works

Many things that are the same to the player need not be many things to the game. Merging only what is truly identical, and checking that the total stays equal, makes the world lighter without anyone noticing a loss.

When not to use it

Skip it when each item has its own story or condition that players track, such as a named weapon or a fresh catch that spoils. Keep those single, and merge only the plain bulk like arrows or stones.
