Let a lift or drawbridge change its destination mid-move without a jerk
Press the button for another floor while the platform is moving, and most movers either keep going to the old stop or jump to a new speed at once. Here is a way to turn around or continue toward the new stop smoothly from wherever the platform is, at whatever speed.
Why this works
Players feel a sudden change of speed, not a change of plan. If the new move begins from where the platform is and how fast it is going, nothing jumps, whatever it was doing a moment ago. The plan may change at any time as long as the motion does not.
When not to use it
Don't use it for things that should react abruptly, such as a trap door, a crusher or a lift in an emergency stop. They need a hard cut. Also not where the platform carries a player who must stay exactly in step with a fixed schedule.
