Count up the earnings from the time away without taking forever for huge sums

When a player returns to an idle game, counting up what they earned feels great, until the sum is a trillion and the count takes a minute, or it is 40 and the count is over before it begins. The length of the count should follow how impressive the sum is, not the sum itself. Here is the rule and its end point.

Why this works

People judge a count by how big the sum feels, and size is felt in digits, not in raw amount. Tying the length to the digits keeps small sums quick and huge sums bearable, and ending on the true figure keeps the screen honest.

When not to use it

Skip the count when the player returns often or in a hurry, or when the sum is the same every time. Then show the total at once with a small flourish, so the reward does not turn into a wait.
