Let frost spread from the edges of a window and clear where a hand touched
A freezing room is told by the window: frost grows from the corners towards the middle, and a hand wipes a clear patch that slowly closes again. The usual shortcut, a fading white layer, shows none of that. Here is how to get the growth, the uneven edge and the patch that refreezes, with melt faster than frost.
Why this works
Glass is coldest at the rim, so frost starts there and spreads inward when it stays cold. It melts faster than it forms, and a warm hand clears a patch that slowly freezes over again.
When not to use it
Skip it when the window is a view the player must see through, such as a lookout or a puzzle with a clue outside. Let the frost be a thin edge only, or give the player a way to wipe it all at once.
