Let fire creep across dry grass one step at a time
A grass fire that sweeps the whole field in a single turn is no tactic, it is a glitch. This entry shows how to spread flames so that they travel a fixed distance each turn, last a while, burn out into ash and stop at wet ground.
Why this works
Everyone must be able to see a fire coming to react to it. Working out the next picture only from the old one gives each flame the same reach, so the speed is fair, readable and the same every time.
When not to use it
Skip it when fire should be a sudden disaster or a scripted event, or when the map is huge and many flames cost too much to follow. Then trigger a fixed burning area or use a simple timer.
