Dragged puzzle pieces snap to the wrong spot or onto one that is already full

On a phone, fingers are clumsy and screens differ in size. A piece may jump to a spot that is already taken, or refuse to snap on small screens and snap too eagerly on large ones. This entry settles who wins, when to give up, and how forgiving to be.

Why this works

Snapping is a promise to the finger: close enough means the piece goes there. Choosing the nearest free spot, with a distance that grows with the piece, keeps the promise on every screen.

When not to use it

Skip snapping when exact placement is the skill, such as a puzzle about aiming. Show a highlight instead and let the player drop where they like.
