A cross-shaped match scores too many points because one piece is counted twice

When two lines of pieces cross, the piece in the middle belongs to both, and a simple counter pays for it twice. Scores then differ between what the player sees and what the board paid. Here is a counter that groups the pieces and scores each one once.

Why this works

Points should follow what disappears from the board, and each piece disappears once. Collecting the pieces into one set first makes double counting impossible, whatever shape the lines make.

When not to use it

Skip it if your rules pay per line on purpose, for example a bonus for each crossing. Then count lines and say so in the rules.
