Make a platform that shakes, drops and comes back only when nobody stands there
Crumbling platforms are fun until they come back inside the player, restart their warning every time a foot touches them, or drop at once on a long frame. Here is a simple three-part timeline that keeps the warning fair and the return safe.
Why this works
A trap is fair when it gives a clear warning and cannot be cheated. Once started, the countdown runs by itself, so the player learns one rule. Waiting to come back until the space is empty means the platform never punishes someone for standing still.
When not to use it
Do not use it in a slow, exploring game or one where players may need to stand on a spot while thinking or fighting. Use a platform that stays and a visible hazard elsewhere to add risk.
