Send a whole army to one spot without all units piling up on one square

If you order twenty soldiers to one point, they walk to the same square, push each other and shake in place. Here is how to hand every unit its own place around the target, skipping walls and the map edge, so the group arrives calmly and the nearest ones take the best spots.

Why this works

Units given the same target fight over it. Handing each one its own place nearest the target removes the fight, and sorting units and places by the same distance means the closest unit takes the closest place, so nobody has to cross anybody's path.

When not to use it

Wrong when the units should keep a shape, such as a line or a wedge, or should attack one enemy together; they need slots relative to their leader instead. It also ignores walls between the slot and the unit, so pair it with the route finder.
