When one side leads at half time, how often does the other side still win?

A match where the leader always wins is dull for the trailing side. This entry shows how to measure the chance of a comeback for different sizes of lead, in a way that works for matches with different scoring targets.

Why this works

A lead means little until you know how much is needed to win. Measuring it as a share of the target makes short and long matches comparable, and the rate of turnarounds then shows whether a match is already settled before it ends.

When not to use it

Wrong for games where luck or one huge final swing is the point, such as party games. There, a low comeback rate is no flaw, so judge by whether players still feel they have a chance.
