Find the choice that silently closes off a whole route

In a story with several paths, one early answer can make a whole ending impossible without the player ever being told. This entry shows how to list every option that costs the player a route, so you can warn them or move the cut later.

Why this works

A choice closes a door when the endings you could still reach afterwards are fewer than before. Comparing the two lists for every option finds each such door, and a loop back to an earlier scene reopens it, so it must be followed all the way around.

When not to use it

Wrong when closing doors is the point of the story, such as a hard choice between two loyalties. Keep the lockout, but make it a warned, meaningful loss, and look only for the ones the player could not have guessed.
