Can the player outrun the monster to the door once their stamina runs out?
A chase is only fair if escaping is possible for someone who plays well. When sprinting tires you out, the answer is not a simple speed comparison. This entry gives the exact margin for a given door, and the farthest door that still works.
Why this works
Who gets there first is decided by arrival time, not by who is faster at any one moment. A speed that drops once the player tires makes a short dash safe and a long run deadly, and comparing times shows exactly where.
When not to use it
Wrong when the chase is meant to be tuned by feel, or when the monster changes speed, uses shortcuts or can be slowed by traps. Then the numbers are only a first guess, so confirm them by playing the chase yourself.
