Add screen shake that fades out and never leaves the picture crooked

Shake on explosions makes hits feel heavy, but a careless version drifts the picture off centre, shakes the same for a tiny hit as for a huge one, or never quite stops. This entry gives a shake that builds up, eases out and ends exactly at rest.

Why this works

Shake is a feeling of impact, so its strength should follow how big the impact was, and it must leave nothing behind. Keeping the wobble as a drawing-only offset, never a change to the real position, means that when the wobble ends, the picture is exactly where it began.

When not to use it

Skip it, or offer an off switch, in games for people who get dizzy from motion, and in calm games where an impact should feel soft. Use a brief flash or a small bounce of one object instead.
