Stop a reused bullet slot from being hit or removed by an old reference

To save effort, games reuse a fixed set of bullet slots. Then something holding on to a bullet that is long gone suddenly removes or moves a different, brand new bullet. This entry shows how to make such old references harmless and how to behave when all slots are taken.

Why this works

A seat number says where something sits, not who sits there. Once a seat is reused, an old note pointing at it names the wrong occupant. Tagging each seat with a count of how often it was freed lets a note prove it still means its original owner.

When not to use it

Skip it when nothing ever remembers a bullet beyond the moment it is made, such as simple shots that just fly and vanish. Then plain reuse is enough. If the cap is rarely reached, creating and dropping objects freely is simpler still.
