Build new land a little at a time so the game never freezes for a moment

Making a whole new stretch of land in one go makes the picture stop for a moment, and a player running through the world feels it as a stumble. This entry shows the AI how to split the work over many frames and what to do with a job too large for one.

Why this works

A freeze is a single long frame, however little work the game does on average. Spreading work thinly over many frames keeps every frame short, and learning each kind of job's real cost from past runs makes the plan fit the actual device, not a guess.

When not to use it

Do not spread out work the player must have right now, such as the ground under their feet after a teleport. There, show a loading screen or a short pause instead, because a world that fills in slowly can be worse than a brief wait.

Say this to your AI

Use the Spielerando entry "Build new land a little at a time so the game never freezes for a moment" (read_entry world-building-hitch-time-budget) in my game. Build it step by step, and show me how you checked that it works.
