How long away means a city-builder player is gone, and who is only on a break?

Builders are played in bursts with days in between, so "not seen for a week" may mean nothing. Call people gone too early and your numbers look worse than they are. This entry shows how to set the line from how long returning players really stayed away.

Why this works

Silence only means something compared with how long people who do return stay away. Their own habits set the line: past it, a comeback is rare. The newest weeks must stay undecided, because someone not yet past the line is not gone, only quiet so far.

When not to use it

Do not use it for games with a natural long break, such as seasonal or story games that people finish and revisit a year later. One line fits them badly. Judge those players by the season, or send a reminder and see who answers.
