Spielerando

A wandering trader should visit about weekly, never two days running

A daily chance makes the trader appear in bunches and vanish for weeks, and bolting on a rest period shifts the average without anyone noticing. This shows how to choose the daily chance so that the average gap is what you promised, with the rest period built in.

Why this works

Waiting for a chance event has an average you can calculate, and a forced rest simply moves the whole wait later. So work backwards: subtract the rest from the promised gap, and set the daily chance to match what is left.

When not to use it

Skip it when the visit is tied to the story or a fixed calendar, like a market day or a festival. Players then plan around it, and a fixed schedule serves them better than an average they cannot rely on.
