Merge three gems into one of the next level, again and again, without losing any
Merging many small pickups into fewer bigger ones is a satisfying chore, and a good way to keep the bag small. It goes wrong at the edges: leftover pieces that vanish, merges that only go one level, or a top tier that tries to merge into nothing. This entry does it in one pass.
Why this works
Merging is a conversion with no loss, so the total worth must be the same before and after. Moving up the tiers once, from the bottom, lets newly made gems join the next merge at once, and leftovers stay visible rather than vanishing.
When not to use it
Don't merge on your own when the choice is part of the fun, for instance when players keep different tiers for different tasks, or when merging costs gold or time. Ask the player first, or merge only what they select.
