Dragging out a road wobbles between horizontal and vertical as the mouse moves

Laying a road by dragging should give a clean straight line, yet a diagonal mouse movement makes the line flip direction from one moment to the next. Here is how to pick the direction once, when to allow a change, and how the line shrinks back to a single piece at the start.

Why this works

A hand never moves in a perfect line, so a choice made fresh every moment follows the noise. Deciding once and keeping that decision until the other direction clearly wins turns a shaky movement into the calm line the person meant.

When not to use it

Do not use it when people should draw curves or diagonals, such as rivers, paths or free-form walls. Offer a separate free-draw tool for those, or lock to eight directions instead of two.
