Let a store that became too small lose its excess gradually
When an enemy burns a granary, the grain above the new limit cannot just disappear in one frame, and it cannot stay forever either. This entry lets the extra rot away at a steady share each turn, never less than one piece, and stops exactly at the new limit.
Why this works
Sudden loss feels like a bug, and no loss makes the limit meaningless. Letting the excess fade by a share each turn gives the player time to react and spend it, and a floor on the loss makes sure the fading actually finishes.
When not to use it
Skip it when the loss should be sharp and dramatic, such as a fire that destroys the stored goods at once, or when the story says everything above the limit is simply gone. Then remove the excess immediately.
