Let a player stop a reload halfway and keep the bullets already loaded
A weapon that loads one round at a time should let the player interrupt and fire as soon as there is something in it. This entry shows what progress is kept, what is lost, and how a very long frame can load more than one round.
Why this works
Progress the player has paid for in time should not vanish when they change their mind. Each loaded round is finished work and stays, while only the unfinished one is lost, so cancelling is a fair choice and not a trap.
When not to use it
Skip it for weapons that load as a whole magazine at once, where a half reload makes no sense, or when you want reloading to be a risk the player must commit to. Then make the whole reload count or fail.
