Spielerando

A ridden animal that turns on the spot at full gallop, or cannot turn at all

A horse or giant bird should feel big: it takes a moment to get up to speed, swings wide when fast and can still turn on the spot when standing. The usual turn speed is fixed and breaks one of these. Here is a rule that ties turning to speed and keeps control at a stand.

Why this works

Size is felt through how a thing turns. A body going fast needs room to swing around, while one standing still can point anywhere, so the turn must depend on speed. A small minimum keeps the rider able to aim before setting off.

When not to use it

Skip it for tight, precise levels, such as narrow ledges or maze-like cave paths, where a wide turn only frustrates. There, keep a light, quick mount with a fixed turn, and save the heavy feel for open ground.
