Spielerando

Choose which stranded squads to rescue before their time runs out

Several squads are cut off, each with its own deadline and a rescue that takes time, and the player can save only some. The obvious plan, going for the biggest prize first, often saves fewer people overall. Here is how to find the order and the set that really saves the most.

Why this works

With limited time you cannot save everyone, so order matters. Working through the squads by whose time runs out first is the only order worth testing, and then picking the set worth the most shows the true best you can do.

When not to use it

Cruel if the story should show that every life counts and the player must not weigh them like goods. Then let the player choose freely and live with it. It also assumes one team and fixed times; with several teams or uncertain travel, estimate instead.
