An ore node regrows by chance each hour, so when is it really back?
Players ask when a mined-out spot will be ready again, and the average wait is a bad answer because many of them will still be standing there with an empty pickaxe. Here is how to give a promise that holds for nearly everyone.
Why this works
A random wait has a long tail, so the average describes the middle of a crowd, not any one person. A promise people can rely on has to be a time that nearly everyone has already passed, and that time comes from the chance of each hour, not from its inverse.
When not to use it
Skip it when the regrowth is tied to something the player can see or do, like a visible growing plant or a daily reset. There a fixed, shown timer is clearer and nobody needs a confidence statement.
