Two players roll for a shared reward and tie: how often, and how to settle it fairly

When a group rolls for one item, ties are more common than most people expect once several players are involved, and rolling again for everybody is unfair to those who already lost. This shows how often ties happen and a fair way to settle them.

Why this works

Whoever holds the top number wins only if nobody else holds it too, and with several players sharing few numbers that is often not the case. Fairness then means that only those who really tied roll again, and everyone sees it.

When not to use it

Skip it when the item has a clear owner by role or contribution, like a healer's staff, or when a group plays together long enough to share loot by turns. Then a plain rule beats a roll and avoids hurt feelings.
