A dying flashlight should flicker in a pattern, not blink randomly every frame

Players expect the light to stutter before it dies, but a random blink on every frame looks like a glitch and changes with the computer's speed. Here is how to make the flicker readable, tied to the battery, and costing power only when the light is really on.

Why this works

A flicker only reads as a warning when it follows a pattern the player can learn. Tying it to lit time instead of to the screen makes it look the same on every device, and draining by the switch means the dying light is not unfairly stretched.

When not to use it

Skip it when a plain steady light is part of the design, such as a tool whose battery is shown on a gauge only. Also avoid strong flicker where it could harm players who are sensitive to flashing light; offer a calm option.
