In a mine-field puzzle the first click must never hit a mine
Placing mines at random before the first click means some players lose on move one, and moving a mine afterwards can quietly change the numbers they already see. This entry places the mines after the click, keeps the opening area clear, and explains what to do on a crowded board.
Why this works
The board does not exist before the first click, so nothing has to be fixed afterwards. Placing the hidden things after that click, away from it, makes the first move safe without moving anything the player has already seen.
When not to use it
A daily puzzle or a fixed level has to be the same for everyone, so you cannot build it from the first click. Build it ahead from a seed, and check by solving that it needs no guess if you promise that.
